I’ve been a fan of Friends in my youth. I’d like to think of myself as Ross, being able to get the pretty girl Rachel. But I knew, deep down, that I’m Chandler, the funny witty guy. These are the characters I grew up with, eventually relate to. The principles of “tuck and roll” I still use to date.
Fast forward ten years later, I find my kids watching Friends, too! They are enjoying the same stories, and the same characters I used to watch. They have it better though. I used to stay up week after week, tuned in to ABC 5 at around 9:00pm to watch the latest episode. My kids now binge watch on Netflix. But the feelings I had when watching are the same feelings I now share with my kids.
As fans of the show, we visited Central Perk Café Singapore! The place is a recreation of the set used in the show Friends. There’s the famous “couch” and some other cool things that were recreated like:
The bar
Monica’s kitchen
Rachel’s Wedding dress
Central Perk Café sign
Being in a café of course means food and drinks. I felt disappointed, as their signature dish, the helium balloon, was unavailable. It was quite unfortunate because it was supposed to be the highlight of the visit. Other things such as fraps, coffee, and pasta are also available, albeit overpriced. I guess if the diner stays for longer period as they watch Friends episode and take photos around, the place would have low customer flow, needing to increase their price offerings.
If you do plan to grab a drink hang out with your friends, this is a much better place rather than Starbucks. It gives you a better ambiance and things to do if you ever run out of things to talk about.
As for us, we grabbed a couple of drinks, and took tons of pictures.
