On my way to the local grocery, I would usually pass by "Traditional Haig Road Putu Piring." The store usually has long queues, signifying that the food may be worth the wait.
Looking at the name, I'm guessing they were first known at "Haig Road." A little googling would showed that the store is on the "Michelin Recommended List." It's almost like having a Michelin Star. If you plan to visit them, they're at Haig Road Food Center Blk 14, #01-07 Singapore 430014.
The history gave me that needed push to join the long queue if needed. Luckily that day, there's no line, and we were able to order quickly. This may not be the original store, but things like quality control and brand management gives me hope that it would be as if I was buying from the Haig Road outlet.

This is my first time eating putu piring. By looking at how it's made, they seem to be similar to puto (from the Philippines) but less fluffy and has filling. We tried the "gula melaka" as it is their original flavor.
The delicacy was cooked for about 5 min and then we were treated with delight.
It was steaming hot when it was served. Its not as aromatic as one might expect, especially with all that steam going on. The putu is thin (a bit disappointed) but the gula melaka filling is generous (in proportion to the putu). There's a lot of desiccated coconut on the side that balanced the flavors.
It's reasonably priced at $3.50 for 4 pieces in one box, so i have no complaints there. I'm guessing I could eat 1 more pack of these before I get satisfied.
So if you're up north, Haig Road Putu Piring is at 1 Northpoint Drive, # B2-146 Northpoint City South Wing, Singapore 768019. They're open 10am to 10pm daily.
