I haven't had as much seafood in the Philippines as I do now here in Singapore. I recently had a chance to enjoy the local dishes here as we visit Long Beach Restaurant at East Coast Singapore.

As all fancy restaurants do, it takes a while for your order to be served. We started the chit chats with a fresh coconut juice. How fresh? You're drinking it as soon as the shells wee cracked. Coconut is one of my favorites, especially when the meat is hard enough that you can chew it, but still soft enough that you can easily scrape it off the shell.

A few minutes later, a waitress came and offered aprons. I accepted one and she graciously helped me wear it. It's time to get messy as the first dish arrived shorty.

Chili Crab

Chili crab to Singaporeans is what Adobo is to Filipinos. It's the local go-to-and-would-never-be-wrong dish. Theirs is thick and creamy. The sauce is what I like the best (that is why the pic). The whole dinner can end now and I would be very happy and satisfied. This dish is always served with the sweet bun. If somebody gets more than 1pc of bun, it better be you as the chili crab sauce is 100 times better with that bun!
Next up is the Black Pepper Crab

Have you been to a pot luck where people brought the same dish? Of course it would be exactly the same, as they would put their own twists in it so one would always be better than the other. That is what the Black Pepper Crab is to the chili crab. For me, black pepper crab will always be the one trying hard to be as good as the chili crab, whereas the chili crab is the one always boasting to be better. And no, black pepper crab doesn't come with a sweet bun. That alone makes the chili crab the clear winner.
It's now a matter of- a) do I stuff myself full this early and be guaranteed with a satisfying dinner, or b) leave some space in case there are other awesome dishes on the way.
Cereal Prawn

Good thing I didn't stuff myself with the chili crab as the cereal prawns is my 2nd favorite dish! The prawns coated with crunchy cereals would make you forget what you had earlier. A perfect mixture of sweet and savory while listening to that cereal crunch. Ours seems to be coming out from the frying pan as they are piping hot! There are only 6 of us in the table, which means the food portions are bigger than usual. I couldn't be happier.
Steamed Fish

I didn't get the name of the dish, so if you know I would appreciate if you could tell me. The fish was tender and juicy and light. Unfortunately we are required to end our main course here. There's only 6 of us eating what's supposed to feed 10. Bigger portions but less variation.
To finish the night, vanilla ice cream with mango coconut syrup.

You eat with your eyes as well with your mouth. This dessert delivers on both senses.
I would certainly like to be back here, as I feel that there are a lot more to experience.
